49er’s Offense or Raiders Defense?

•October 16, 2010 • Leave a Comment

This weekend’s rivalry game comes down to the 49er’s offense or the Raider’s defense. Can Smith overcome 4 weeks of disappointment? Can Crabtree continue his solid play or will Asomugha and the DB’s shut down the pass offense. Can the Raider’s ‘D’ cause all kinds of havoc to the 49er’s offensive line. The 49er’s need a win in a big way! You have to give them the edge, but because this is a rivalry game, it can go either way. Raiders by 10. What!!!!

Giants Take Game 1!

•October 16, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I know, did I miss Halladay’s no-hitter! Lincecum’s 1st game was a gem as well. I think the Giants are hitting better than the Phils. I think the hero for the Giants will be a no name like Sanchez or Uribe. Which means the Giants take game one. Go Giants!

UCLA’s Success Rides on Point Guard Play!.

As I read the many UCLA men’s basketball posts, it seems to me that the make or break of UCLA men’s basketball rides on the play of the point. They have plenty of talent everywhere else. If Jones and Anderson can’t cut it, Lee might be the guy that we need to depend on to do some damage in the Pac-10. Before last season began, I had one guy that I read differently than everyone else-Nelson. Most people thought he would either red shirt or get scrub minutes, I saw him in high school and saw that he was a very good athlete. This year the major contributors will be-Honeycutt and Nelson-no brainer! Newcomer surprise-Lamb; Expected major contributor, but a disappointment-Lee. let’s see! Go Bruins!

UCLA Breakout Year or Bust?

•September 21, 2010 • Leave a Comment

College basketball season is just around the corner and my UCLA Bruins are the subject of much discussion. Experts are wondering what kind of team will show up when the season kicks off in November. I really like what I see on paper, but that’s not going to win you any Pac-10 titles. If the Bruins perform to their potential, I actually think they can run away with the Pac-10 title. Can highly touted, McDonald’s All-American Josh Smith be the guy that earned him that accolade of being one of the best incoming freshman in the country? Can JC recruit Lazeric Jones run the point with the type of leadership needed for this young team? I’m not counting on either Jermaine or Malcom to carry that mantel. I’m not worried about Nelson or Honeycutt, they will meet and exceed expectations. Last year, I predicted that the player that would perform way beyond expectations would be Nelson and he did. This years choice, and not so much of a stretch as Nelson, is Tyler Lamb with Brendan Lane a close second. Personally, a losing season is unacceptable this year!

Which Raider Quarterback Will Cable Start on Sunday?

•September 21, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Who do you think Cable will start at QB on Sunday? I think it’s a no brainer, but if Al says the Jim Plunkett want-to-be is starting, guess whose starting. Politically it’s better to go with the guy you’re paying big bucks to and the guy your owner, who pays the bills, feels is the second coming of Jim Plunkett. And we all know what happened when Jim Plunkett came on the Raider scene-SUPER BOWL, BABY!!! Bruce will be patient and will eventually be the everyday starter!

Can the San Francisco Giants Win the NL West?

•September 20, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The Giants made it all the way back and even took the lead for a few days. Can the Giants win the NL West and return to the playoffs? They have a very good starting pitching staff and relief core, but can they endure until the end? The starting staff, although very strong, has shown signs of fatigue. And just when you think the Giants are going to implode, they run off a half dozen wins. The hitting has been up and down as well. If they can stay healthy, they have enough to go far in the playoffs. My feel on the Giants is that they will go neck and neck with the Colorado Rockies. And because I’m a Giant fan, I’ll say the Giants will win the NL West on the last day of the regular season.

Raider Quarterback Controvery? Who Starts Next Week?

•September 20, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Is there a quarterback controversy in oakland? I think not, Gradkowski was the guy all along. I don’t even think you need to be a pro football expert to figure that one out. Why are coaches so enamored by arm strength, size, speed, even skill and don’t put much weight on intangibles like football instincts, great vision, just football smarts. I know we can argue this one till the cows come home, but why do we all feel more comfortable with the guy marked by the latter. Raiders need to stick with Bruce ‘Almight’ (careful). Now if we can figure out our offensive line, maybe we can win a few games. Speaking of offensive line, I would love to see Bruce Campbell develop into a left tackle. He’s an incredible physical specimen. Does anyone know why they prefer playing him at right guard rather than at tackle. The only thing I can conclude is that Bruce is so raw, that playing him at guard is less of a learning curve than at tackle, especially left tackle. So playing him at guard gives him more playing time opportunity. So who starts next week? Probably Campbell, but I think it should be Gradkowski! There’s no controversy, Gradkowski’s the starter!
